Massage Therapy Treatments

Swedish Massage

Sports Therapeutic Massage

Sports Therapeutic Massage

A Swedish massage aims to promote relaxation for  the entire body by releasing muscle tension using a variety of techniques used, including circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, light tapping, and more. Swedish massage is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for people interested in relaxation and tension relief. But the benefits of Swedish massage go beyond relaxation. It can help increase the level of oxygen in the blood and improve circulation and flexibility.

Orthopedic Massage

Orthopedic massage focuses on correcting a physical problem, pain, or dysfunction. The first step in our Orthopedic Therapeutic Massage is assessment, in which the therapist will assess the tissue and establish a treatment plan, considering the physiological effects of various massage techniques. This type of massage focuses on injury rehabilitation on the muscles and soft tissue surrounding joints and is highly flexible, as it integrates a wide range of therapeutic styles with the end goal of improving tissue healing, relieving pain while restoring balance and creating a fuller range of motion. Depending on the issue, the Massage Therapist may recommend multiple sessions to treat the problem, to ensure that it is eliminated and to build up strength and resistance in the affected area to prevent future recurrences. Because this type of massage is designed to treat orthopedic conditions, it requires extensive medical/therapeutic training.

Deep Tissue Massage

Orthopedic Massage

Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as a more classic superficial massage. The difference is that the pressure will generally be more intense, and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. The strokes are the same, but the movement is slower and deeper. At certain points during the massage, most people find there is usually some discomfort and pain. It is important to tell the therapist when they hit a tender spot and if any discomfort you experience is outside your comfort range.

The Purpose of a Deep tissue massage is much more than just a  “hard massage.” In contrast to only relaxing muscles, the specific lengthening of fascia, muscles and tendons offers many benefits such as increased joint movement, quicker injury recovery, better posture, as well as feelings of well-being.

Deep tissue massage is often used to treat:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Limited Mobility
  • Recovery from Injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, and sports injury)
  • Repetitive Strain Injury (carpal tunnel syndrome)
  • Postural Problems
  • Osteoarthritis Pain
  • Muscle Tension or Spasm.
